SRINAGAR: The Budgam soldier who has gone mysteriously missing on Monday, has been found dead. He had come to see his child, born when he was away on duty. Sameer Ahmad Malla, a JAKLI soldier went missing from his Budgam residence on Monday.

Malla was posted in Jammu and was on leave. On Thursday, his body was found in the Khag area but officials are yet to confirm it.

A relative of Malla told reporters that he had lunch and left home and since then he is untraceable. His cell phone was also switched off.

Malla was in Jammu on duty when his wife gave birth to his second child. He applied for leave and was grated. For most of the days, he would spend time with his wife at Mazhama, where his in-laws live, and come to his home at Lokipora for the day.

On Monday morning, he came home with his elder son and had lunch at home. He told his mother that he will again go to Mazhama in the evening. And then he went missing. His father, Mohammad Yaqoob Malla, however, told a local news gatherer that he did talk to his mother Monday night and then his phone was switched off.

Malla’s role had earlier come under investigation in 2018 for allegedly driving army officer Major Leetul Gogoi and a local girl to a Srinagar hotel on May 23. The army tried them in a court-martial and held both of them guilty on two counts – “fraternising” with a local woman in spite of instructions to the contrary and “being away from the place of duty.

Reports said that Malla’s body was found in the Khag area. The details are not immediately known.
