Trump Reiterates Offer to Mediate on Kashmir

SRINAGAR: US President Donald Trump has once again offered to mediate the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan, asserting that he could help resolve the decades-old conflict. Speaking at a recent bill-signing event at the White House, Trump said, “I can solve anything,” and recalled discussing the rivalry between the two nations over Kashmir, which he described as a “2,000-year” conflict.

Trump claimed credit for brokering a ceasefire last month after four days of intense military exchanges between the nuclear-armed neighbors, stating, “I stopped a war between India and Pakistan, and I did it with trade,” referencing his use of trade leverage and direct phone calls to both leaders.

India has firmly rejected Trump’s repeated offers for third-party mediation, maintaining that Kashmir is a bilateral issue to be resolved directly with Pakistan. New Delhi has consistently dismissed outside intervention, reiterating its stance that all outstanding issues must be settled peacefully and bilaterally.

Pakistan, in contrast, has welcomed Trump’s mediation offer, emphasizing the importance of resolving the Kashmir dispute for regional peace.

Trump’s remarks have drawn criticism in India, with opposition parties and commentators viewing his statements as an attempt to internationalize the Kashmir issue, a sensitive subject in Indian foreign policy
