An annual report card released by Ministry of Home Affairs has shown job scheme Udaan taking off by overcoming initial impediments. The report says corporates offered jobs to over 3,100 youths in Jammu & Kashmir in the last one year.

The latest job figures are the highest since New Delhi started Udaan jobs scheme in 2013.

Among those who secured jobs—57% have preferred the Information Technology (IT) sector, offering an average monthly salary of only Rs 15000. This, says the report card, is a factor that is “still ailing the scheme”.

“As compared March 2014, when only 942 jobs were offered in J&K (since Udaan’s inception in 2013), 3133 jobs were offered last year and corporates reached out to 17,000 youth for training through 327 selection drives in this period,” says the MHA’s report card.

74 leading corporates like Accenture, HCL, TCS, Bajaj Allianz and Wipro have committed to train 94,300 J&K youth with 61,000 registering with Udaan, the report card says.

Though the low salaries offered by corporates remains a stumbling block in Udaan, the quantum jump, however, in number of selections, trainings and jobs offered are cited an achievement by the Home Ministry on Modi-led NDA’s first anniversary.
