SRINAGAR: Minority Community students pursuing MPhil or PhD in science, humanities, social sciences, engineering or technology can avail of the University Grants Commission (UGC) scheme of Maulana Azad National Fellowship for Minority Students. It is funded the by Ministry of Minority Affairs.

There are 756 fellowships available every year in all subjects. However, three per cent of fellowships are reserved for physically handicapped candidates belonging to minority communities.

The scheme is open to candidates who belong to minority communities i.e, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Parsi and Buddhists. The objective is to provide an integrated five-year fellowship in the form of financial assistance to students as notified by the Central Government to pursue higher studies such as MPhil and PhD.

The fellowship holders under this scheme will be known ad MOMA (Ministry of Minority Affair) scholars.

Applicants should have passed the post-graduation examination with minimum of 50 per cent marks in the concerned subject. The applicants who are eligible for this post should belong to one of the minority communities notified under section 2c of the national commission for minorities Act 1992, and the applicant should get admission and registration for regular and full time MPhil/PhD courses in university/ Academic Institution at the first available opportunity not later than within a period of two years from the receipt of awarded letter.
