SRINAGAR: Residents of Badu Bagh Khanyar, Shadab Lane in Usmania Colony, and Bagh-i-Mehtab have been grappling with a severe water crisis for the past ten days, accusing the Jal Shakti Department of neglecting their repeated complaints and failing to take timely action.
Local residents allege that despite making numerous calls to concerned engineers, no measures were taken to restore water supply or provide temporary alternatives such as tankers. “An engineer promised to send a tanker yesterday, but no one showed up. There is absolutely no water,” said a resident of Khanyar.
Another resident criticised the department for ignoring a crisis that, although affecting a limited number of households, has left families with no choice but to consume rainwater. “We have been calling the engineer repeatedly. I can even show the call logs. Now they don’t even answer,” he added.
The residents have urged the administration to intervene immediately, warning that the prolonged disruption has made it difficult to meet basic needs such as cooking, drinking, and sanitation.
When contacted by Kashmir Life, an official from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department attributed the disruption to recent cloudbursts and silt accumulation at several water treatment plants. “Water supply has been affected in several areas due to this. We are working on it and expect full restoration by late evening today,” the official said.
