SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district have intensified anti-narcotics operations under the ongoing “War Against Drugs” campaign, part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, registering 101 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and arresting 143 individuals involved in drug-related offences.
Police said multiple operations across the district led to the recovery of substantial quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances, including heroin, brown sugar, charas, cannabis, ganja, psychotropic tablets, syrups, and poppy straw.
Financial investigations into the drug network have resulted in the seizure of Rs 4.13 lakh in cash linked to narcotics trade, while bank accounts holding over Rs 30 lakh have been frozen.
In major enforcement actions, police have attached 15 properties, comprising 11 immovable and four movable assets valued at approximately Rs 21.544 crore. In addition, 35 vehicles allegedly used in drug trafficking have been seized.
Authorities have also processed eight preventive detention cases under the PIT NDPS Act, suspended or blacklisted 84 driving licences, deactivated six Aadhaar cards, and impounded one passport belonging to accused persons.
Police further said eight FIRs were registered against drug peddlers operating near educational institutions, leading to the arrest of 14 individuals.
As part of eradication efforts, illegal poppy and opium cultivation spread over 25.03 kanals of land was destroyed, while three properties worth Rs 3.55 crore were demolished.
In parallel, Srinagar Police inspected 703 chemist and medical shops, taking action against 15 establishments for violations of regulations.
The force also conducted 210 awareness programmes across the district, reaching over 27,840 participants from various sections of society.
Police reiterated their commitment to a drug-free Kashmir and urged public cooperation, particularly from the youth, in combating the narcotics menace.
