SRINAGAR: An 18-year-old youth sustained multiple burn injuries after he was allegedly attacked and set ablaze by an unidentified person in the Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said.
An official said that the injured youth, identified as 18-year-old, (name withheld), a resident of Chowgam, Qazigund, was initially taken to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for treatment.
He was subsequently referred to SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, for specialised treatment, the official said.
According to preliminary information, the youth was allegedly attacked from behind by an unidentified person, who sprayed petrol on him and set him on fire before fleeing from the spot.
The youth sustained multiple burn injuries in the incident and is currently undergoing treatment at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar.
A senior police officer said that cognisance of the matter has been taken and an FIR has been registered.
Further investigation is underway to identify the accused and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident, officer said. (JKNS)
