SRINAGAR: Russian drone and missile strikes on the western Ukrainian city of Ternopil overnight killed at least 21 people, including two children, Ukraine’s National Police said on Wednesday, as reported by DW News.
More than 66 people were injured, among them 16 children, after two nine-storey residential buildings were severely damaged, one engulfed in flames and the other with its upper floors torn away.
Rescue teams continued evacuations through the morning, with officials warning that more residents may still be trapped beneath the rubble. Local authorities also reported that air pollution levels in Ternopil had risen to six times the normal level following the strikes.
Further Russian attacks were reported across several regions overnight. Ukraine’s Air Force Command as per BBC news said the Lviv, Ternopil and Kharkiv regions were the main targets. In Kharkiv, more than 40 people, including children, were injured in drone strikes, according to local officials as per Ukrainian local media reports.
