As of October 2024, approximately 32,000 Indian workers were employed in Israel, with around 12,000 of them arriving after October 2023. These workers, mostly employed in the construction sector, have been sent under both government-to-government (G2G) agreements and private arrangements.

Singh assured that the safety and security of Indian nationals, particularly workers, is a top priority for the Indian government. “Indian workers in Israel are entitled to equal treatment regarding labour rights, including lodging, medical insurance, and social security coverage, as outlined in the Framework Agreement between the two countries,” he stated.

In response to concerns raised by families in India, the minister highlighted the government’s proactive approach in safeguarding workers in conflict zones. The Indian Embassy in Israel works closely with Israeli authorities to address any security issues and grievances raised by workers. “Some workers had raised concerns, which were promptly addressed with the relevant authorities in Israel,” added Singh.

While the ongoing war in Israel has raised alarm among families of the workers, the government’s coordinated efforts aim to ensure their safety, with measures such as secure accommodation and continuous communication with local authorities.

The Indian Embassy continues to monitor the situation closely and is in regular contact with the workers, ensuring their welfare amidst the challenging circumstances in Israel.
