Eight Fire Incidents Hit Kashmir in 24 Hours

   

SRINAGAR: At least eight fire incidents were reported across different districts of the Kashmir division over the last 24 hours, prompting swift responses from the Fire and Emergency Services, which successfully brought all blazes under control and prevented loss of life, officials said.

According to Fire and Emergency Services, the incidents were reported between December 23 and December 24, 2025, and were handled efficiently despite varied terrain and weather conditions. Timely intervention by firefighting teams ensured that property damage was minimised in all cases.

In Sopore’s Firdous Colony in Delina, a double-storeyed residential structure along with an attached cowshed was damaged in a fire incident. In Kupwara’s Pazalpora area of Magam, a Deodar tree caught fire and was extinguished before it could spread to nearby vegetation.

Another residential house was affected by fire in Shah-e-Hamdan Colony, Tandpora, in Hajin area of Bandipora. In Pulwama district, multiple incidents were reported, including a forest fire in Gatipora, Keller, which was brought under control, and a residential house fire in Pirchoo. Additionally, a cowshed was damaged in Dachoo area of Zainapora.

In Budgam’s Pathanpora area of Nasrulla Pora, dry grass caught fire and was promptly extinguished by fire personnel, preventing the flames from reaching nearby structures.

In Kupwara district’s Zangil area, three Army barracks at the 28 Light Infantry camp, constructed using pucca structures, GCI sheets and wooden material, were affected in a fire incident. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze, averting a major loss.

Fire and Emergency Services officials said all incidents were handled with professionalism, dedication and courage by personnel deployed across the Valley. Operations were carried out under the leadership of ADGP Fire and Emergency Services Alok Kumar, ensuring coordinated and timely responses.

The department has urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly during the winter season, and to exercise caution while using electrical appliances. Citizens have been advised to avoid overloading circuits, especially during night hours, to prevent fire-related mishaps.
