Ahead Of Eid, Top Officers Fly To Kishtwar, Review Situation

Chief Secretary, B R Sharma led top officers to Kishtwar to review arrangements for Eid-ul-Azha. Home Secretary R K Goyal and state police chief K Rajendra were part of the meeting.

The sensitive Chenab valley township has remained slightly restive over the happening in Kashmir. Given a questionable past, authorities are keen to ensure that the Muslim festival passes incident free.

An official spokesman said Chief Secretary took a detailed review of all arrangements with emphasis on security scenario and exhorted upon the officers to make sure that the people do not face any inconvenience on account of basic services related to their respective departments. He asked them to ensure that the festival is celebrated in a total smooth and peaceful manner.

Sharma asked the FCS&CA department to see that the essential commodities are being supplied to the people in a hassle free manner besides keeping a strict check on rates and quality of edibles being provided during the festival.

Chief Secretary was informed that all the necessary arrangements have been put in place for smooth celebration of the festival besides checking squads have been activated to monitor the sale and purchase in the markets.

Later, Sharma, in a meeting, took brief review of ongoing developmental projects in the district and directed the authorities to ensure completion of these works in time.

During the meeting, representative of various political parties and social organizations jointly put forth certain issues being faced by the people of the area and sought their early redressal. They demanded immediate renovation of highway from Batote to Kishtwar, opening of Hydro electric projects on priority basis to generate employment avenues for locals, disbursement of land compensation among people under PMGSY, PWD, R&B schemes, special recruitment by police department for the district besides establishment of joint venture office in Kishtwar etc.

In the neighbouring Ramban district, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal, also convened a meeting with representatives of civil society and officers of the civil and police administration and appreciated their efforts in maintaining peace and brotherhood.

Inspector General of Police Jammu Danish Rana, District Development Commissioner Mohammad Aijaz and Senior Superintendent of Police Randeep Kumar besides representatives of religious organizations, political parties, business establishments, bar associations, tribal communities, NGOs and locals from the areas of Gool, Banihal, Rajgarh, Batote and Ramsoo attended the meet.

Many issues were raised by the locals including uninterrupted water and power supply, clean drinking water, early completion of filter plants for Ramban town, repairing of suspension bridge over river Chenab connecting Ramban city with district head quarter, land compensation, free traffic flow on NHW, smooth nomads movement on roads and speeding up progress of various developmental projects.

Kotwal assured that concerted efforts will be made to provide resolution to the concerns put forth by the people. He admired the efforts of local people for maintaining communal harmony in the district adding that peace is fundamental for development and prosperity of any area.

Later, Divisional Commissioner took a brief meeting with district administration and discussed various issues raised by the civil society. He instructed the officers for resolving the genuine issues on priority to develop confidence among common masses as far as the service delivery system is concerned.

District Development Commissioner apprised the meeting of ongoing security situation, developmental scenario and administrative preparedness in the district.
