SRINAGAR: National Conference Vice-President Omar Abdullah on Thursday said that the BJP would cease discussing the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) following its defeat in all five Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir.

The former chief minister made these remarks a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah mentioned that the Centre is contemplating the revocation of AFSPA and the withdrawal of troops from Jammu and Kashmir.

“New Delhi is once again deceiving the people of Jammu and Kashmir, just as they misled the people of Ladakh regarding Statehood and Sixth Schedule. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has once again raised the AFSPA issue. All this is aimed at deceiving the people of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. I am confident that once the BJP faces the people’s anger in all Lok Sabha seats in Jammu and Kashmir, they will once again forget about AFSPA and troop withdrawal,” Omar Abdullah said while addressing a people’s convention in north Kashmir’s Sopore.

“We have witnessed similar promises in the past, but not a single one was fulfilled. These promises are merely political ploys of the BJP,” he added. (KNS)
