SRINAGAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested one person who had been absconding for 26 years after allegedly committing a murder in Saudi Arabia in 1999, according to multiple media reports.
Quoting officials, Hindustan Times reported that, Mohammad Dilshad, 52, a resident of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh, was accused of killing a co-worker at his workplace in Riyadh while working as a heavy motor mechanic-cum-security guard. Following the incident, he fled to India and managed to evade authorities for over two decades.
On the request of Saudi authorities, the CBI registered a case in April 2022. Investigators traced his village in Bijnor and issued a Look Out Circular (LOC), but Dilshad remained untraceable. The probe later revealed that he had been travelling to Gulf countries, including Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, using a false identity and fraudulently obtained documents. A second LOC was subsequently issued after his new passport was identified.
Dilshad was held at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on August 11 while travelling from Madinah via Jeddah. He was employed with a company in Madinah at the time of his arrest. He was produced before court and remanded to judicial custody on August 14.
The CBI said further investigation in the case is underway.
