According to a notification issued under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, consumers with PNG connections will no longer be permitted to retain domestic LPG connections or obtain refills from government oil companies or their authorised distributors. Such consumers will be required to surrender their existing LPG connections.

The revised rules also bar individuals with PNG facilities from applying for new domestic LPG connections in the future or receiving LPG cylinder refills from public sector oil marketing companies.

The amendment, titled Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026, takes effect from the date it is published in the Official Gazette.

Under the new provisions, government oil companies have also been directed not to issue domestic LPG connections or provide refills to customers who already have PNG connections.
