SRINAGAR: The Government of Jammu Kashmir has said that the long-awaited flyover project connecting Lal Chowk with Parimpora has been included in the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ approved action plan for 2025–26, with a sanctioned cost of Rs 700 crore.
According to the Public Works (RB) Department, the proposed 7-kilometre, four-lane flyover—stretching from Dalgate through Budshah Kadal up to Parimpora on NH-1—is among the 19 projects approved by the Ministry for Jammu and Kashmir. The project is expected to significantly decongest the Srinagar city centre, particularly the high-traffic corridor between Lal Chowk and Batamaloo.
Officials said the topographical survey and geotechnical investigation, including Automatic Traffic Counter and Classifier (ATCC) studies at major intersections, are presently under way. The department said that the preparation of the final alignment, plan, and profile is also in progress, and a draft is being readied for submission to the Ministry for approval.
Once the alignment and structural design are cleared by the Ministry, the project will move to the tendering stage before execution begins.
The project, first conceived years ago to ease congestion on the main Srinagar highway, is seen as one of the largest infrastructure undertakings within the city limits and a key step in modernising its transport network.
