SRINAGAR: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in India on a two-day visit beginning Monday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Saturday, according to multiple media reports.
The visit, as per NDTV report, extended at the invitation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, will see Yi hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and join Doval for the 24th round of Special Representatives’ dialogue on the boundary question.
The development comes amid cautious efforts by both New Delhi and Beijing to ease tensions and rebuild ties, following last October’s agreement on fresh border patrol arrangements. The breakthrough ended a five-year military standoff that had significantly strained bilateral relations, impacting trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.
Yi’s trip is also being viewed as a precursor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to China, his first in seven years, where he is expected to meet President Xi Jinping and attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
