Srinagar

A civilian protester was on Saturday hit by a teargas shell on his head in at Beerwah after police used forces to disperse the protesters.

Reports reaching here said that the protester, identified as Muhammad Yousuf, a resident of Beerwah town was shifted to Gondipora dispensary for treatment.

However, he was later shifted to Jehlum Valley Hospital (JVC) in Srinagar for specialised treatment.

Earlier, the protesters hit the streets against the police after the later registered an FIR against “unknown” people in the killing of a youth Tanveer Ahmad in the town yesterday.

Witnesses said that the protesters were demanding that police should file a case against the army, who without any doubt were involved in the killing of Tanveer.

They said that police had filed a case under section 307, however, they demanded that a case be filed against army under section 302, for it is clearly an “act of murder”.

The locals alleged that police also used massive teargas shelling in the interiors of Beerwah and vandalised the properties of the residents.
