Over the reports of Government of India (GoI) denying expanding the cross-LoC travel and trade, the traders Friday said the Confidence Building Measure (CBM) would die silent death in near future.
“The cross LoC trade is already on the ventilator. Once its space is squeezed further, it will soon die a silent death,” general secretary cross LoC traders union Hilal Turkey told KNS.
“The report has not only sent shock waves across the traders camp but at the same time has also disheartened and disappointed them at large. It was one of the major CBM between India and Pakistan. It needs to be expanded rather than being chocked. We were hoping that the Cross LoC trade will be facilitated after the recent visit of the Union Home Secretary but things seems to have been working in the opposite direction,” he added.
Reports informed that GoI has denied expanding the cross LoC travel while making it clear that it “doesn’t intend to open new trade links between the two divided parts of Kashmir like Kargil- Skardu.”
