Reacting over the recent reports of Bollywood making beeline to Kashmir, Huriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said government should instead focus on giving people right to live during the present turbulent times.

Talking to KNS, Mirwaiz Umar, who is Kashmir’s chief cleric, said the basic human rights of people in Kashmir are denied with the life becoming unsafe every day after. “Here AFSPA is in vogue under which forces have a license to kill innocents. Instead of inviting Bollywood stars to Kashmir, the state government should ensure peoples safety which continues to remain at risk from dawn to dusk,” Mirwaiz told KNS.

The Huriyat (M) chairman added that the people of Kashmir are least bothered about the visit of the film stars in valley but are more concerned about the safety of their lives. “The efforts government makes in inviting film starts to Kashmir, should be made to revoke AFSPA, and other draconian laws which endanger our days here. The people here need right to live and film shootings at the landscapes here would least make any difference on ground,” Mirwaiz said.

The chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed earlier on Thursday met Shahrukh Khan who expressed desire to shoot his upcoming films in Kashmir. Government here believes that the visit of the film stars from Indian cinema would boost the tourism activities in Kashmir which witnessed devastating floods last year in September.

Over the recent statement of union Home Minister Rajnath Singh about the cross LoC trade and travel, the Huriyat (M) chairman termed the statement unfortunate; saying instead of encouraging people to people contact, government is creating serious hurdles in Kashmir resolution. “Under the RSS pressure, the government is choking the space of people here. It is unfortunate that government is undermining the initiatives taken by former prime minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee.”
