For the first time after Burhan Wani’s killing threw Kashmir haywire, the government finally permitted three top separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik to have their first meeting.

The meeting coincided with the conclusion of fourth months of unrest on Saturday. It happened on the eve of the reopening of Durbar in Jammu for the winter six months.

“The meeting is under way at Hyderpora,” Miraiz’s spokesman Shahid ul Islam said. “They are three and they must be discussing things because they are meeting for the first time.”

Malik and Mirwaiz left for the meeting at around 11 am. The meeting is reported to have started at around 11:30 am.

Insiders said the three leaders are expected to chalk out future course of action after four months of unrest. Unlike Geelani, Malik and Miarwaiz have met a series of delegations from cross section of the society. “They would obviously take these issues under consideration,” one source said.

Soon after the tensions peaked, the authorities arrested JKLF leader Yasin Malik and Mirwaiz. They were kept separately from each other. Mirwaiz earlier told Kashmir Life that once he was arrested, he thought the government would get Geelani and Milik to the sub-jail but that did not happen.

After the two were released, within 24 hours after a delegation from Delhi visited Kashmir, Malik tried to meet Geelani. He drove to Hyderpora on November 2, but was not permitted by the police to enter the ailing leader’s residence. Today’s meeting is the renewed effort by the two leaders to meet Geelani and there were no obstructions.
