The opposition unionist parties meeting called by National Conference Wednesday passed a resolution demanding probe into the civilian killings in the on-going civil uprising by a retired Supreme Court judge, stopping use of pellet guns on protesters, and called for a special assembly session.

The meeting that lasted for over four hours since 10:30 AM passed a resolution which said that the Union government led by BJP should start political dialogue with Pakistan over resolution of Kashmir issue.

“Kashmir is a political issue and it will be resolved through a political dialogue,” the resolution said.

Called by National Conference’s working President Omar Abdullah and held at the residence of the NC patron and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, the meeting was held to discuss the prevailing situation and unabated civilian killings by forces and ask New Delhi and State Governments to come up with a “political plan” to address the on-going civil uprising.

JKPCC president G A Mir, CPI (m) State Secretary, M Y Tarigami, PDF chairperson Hakim Mohammad Yasin and AIP Chief Engineer Rasheed, former minister and chairman DNP Ghulam Hassan Mir and other opposition legislators attended the meeting.

They also discussed the “failure” of the state and Union governments to restore normalcy in the state.

The participants discussed that a delegation of the opposition unionist politicians will meet President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, and other Indian leaders over the on-going situation in the valley.

Later, NC working president Omar Abdullah briefed the reporters about the meeting.

To a question whether opposition would demand resignation of chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, Omar replied that the present situation does not demand shifting of power but stopping killings of civilians.

“The fate of the government will be decided in people’s court later,” he said.
