A newspaper hawker at Nai Basti Islamabad Shahid Ahmad Sheikh was on Monday morning “thrashed” by the CRPF men when he came out to sell newspapers in the local market.

“When I reached the market to sell newspapers, a few CRPF men appeared and thrashed me quite badly,” Shahid told Kashmir Life over phone. “Some of them caned and kicked my back before dragging me away from the spot. They even tore my newspapers.”

The hawker said when he pleaded with CRPF men to stop thrashing him, he was told by an officer that “newspapers are responsible for crisis in Kashmir”. “They even accused me of selling peace threatening newspapers,” Shahid said.
