Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Khawaja Ghulam Ahmad Tuesday soon after calling a meeting of administrative, Army and police officials submitted his report on the alleged atrocities committed by government forces in North Kashmir’s Palhallan area of Pattan town.
Informed sources told CNS that on the directions of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shalinder Kumar, DC Baramullah called all the important administrative, police and Army officials at Tehsil Office Pattan. Sources said that besides some locals, Senior Superintendent of Police Barmaulla Zubair Ahmed Khan, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Pattan Syed Fayaz Ahmed, Station House Officer Pattan Bashir Ahmed, Executive Magistrate Pattan Moin Ahmed Kakroo and Army officials were also present during the meeting.
While expressing anguish over the news report about the alleged atrocities committed by government forces, DC Baramulla reportedly sought explanations form all the concerned officers. Sources said that soon after the meeting DC Baramulla Khawaja Ghulam Ahmad submitted a detailed report in this regard to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.
While talking to CNS, DC Baramulla confirmed that a meeting in this regard was called by him. “It was a serious issue and I did whatever I was directed by Divisional Commissioner. I submitted full details before the Divisional Commissioner soon after the meeting,” Khawaja said.
An army official posted in 29 RR Haider Beigh Head Quarter on the condition of anonymity told CNS that all the allegations leveled against the Army in the news report are baseless. He said that few militants were active in Palhalan area and keeping this fact in view the Army used to call youth for questioning. “We never arrested anybody. We used to call them for questioning and the Army never harassed them,” he said.
SSP Baramulla Zubair Ahmed Khan while talking to CNS said that police never arrested any youth in Palhalan area and neither, “we called any youth for questioning.”
“During the meeting no local was able to produce a single evidence against the police as we had never arrested any youth,” Khan said.
Executive Magistrate Pattan, Moin Ahmed Kakroo said that locals demanded that Civil Administration Darbar should be held in Palhalan every month. “Locals said that they only want Civil Administration Darbar so that they can put forth their grievances before the administration,” he said adding that locals assured DC Baramulla that they will not allow their youth to indulge in unlawful activities.
He further said that an Awami Darbar will be held at Palhalan in next month.
Pertinently, few days back, a newspaper had carried a story on atrocities committed by government forces in north Kashmir’s Palhalan area. (CNS)
