SRINAGAR: The Doctors Association of Kashmir (DAK) has called for the urgent establishment of a NEET SS examination centre in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, to address the significant challenges faced by aspirants from the region. The demand highlights the plight of candidates compelled to travel over 300 kilometres to appear for the examination.

DAK President Dr Yousuf Tak expressed concern over the financial and logistical hardships imposed on aspirants, compounded by the region’s unpredictable weather and terrain. “This long journey is an unnecessary burden on students and families, making an already challenging process even more difficult,” he said.
Dr Rubeena Bhat, spokesperson for DAK, criticised the National Board of Examination (NBE) for citing security concerns as the reason for not establishing a centre in Srinagar. “Ironically, the government claims Kashmir is secure enough to host millions of tourists but not a single examination centre for NEET SS,” she remarked.
DAK General Secretary Dr Owais emphasised the adverse impact on candidates forced to undertake arduous journeys outside the Valley. “This is not just a logistical issue but a question of equity and fairness,” he stated.
Senior executive member Dr Masood underscored the potential benefits of a local examination centre, noting that it would alleviate hardships and ensure inclusivity in the examination process. “A local centre would bring relief to thousands of aspirants and promote fairness in access to opportunities,” he added.
The association urged the authorities to prioritise the matter and establish a NEET SS examination centre in Srinagar without delay, framing it as a necessary step to ensure equal opportunities for students across the country.
