Paying glowing tributes to the illustrious son of the soil, Muhammad Afzal Guru, for “sacrificing his life for the greater cause of Kashmir issue”, Hurriyat Conference (m) Tuesday appealed the United Nations and the international community to play their role in facilitating the return of mortal remains of Guru and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) founder, Muhammad Maqbool Bhat, who are both buried inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail, to the Kashmiri people.
Stressing that hanging of Guru was in violation of all norms of justice, a Hurriyat Conference (m) statement said, “in sending Guru to gallows all laws of humanity and justice were ignored.”
Terming the burying of Guru inside Delhi’s Tihar Jail premises instead of returning his mortal remains to his family in Kashmir as a travesty of justice, the statement said, “by doping this India had not only exposed its judiciary but also put a question mark on its democratic credentials.”
Meanwhile, a high-level delegation of Hurriyat Conference (m) comprising of Muhammad Musadiq Adil, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Mir Ghulam Hassan despite severe restrictions imposed by the government visited Guru’s ancestral village at Doabgah, Sopore and participated in the prayer Majlis for Guru on his third death anniversary and paid glowing tributes to him.
On the occasion, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while speaking to Guru’s family over telephone from New Delhi expressed solidarity with them and termed Guru’s martyrdom as a milestone in the resistance history of Jammu Kashmir.
Terming these sacrifices as the real treasure of Kashmir’s on-going resistance movement, Mirwaiz said, “they would not be allowed to go waste and would definitely bear fruit.”
Meanwhile, condemning the state administration for imposing undeclared curfew in most parts of Srinagar, a Hurriyat Conference (m) spokesperson said, “they had aborted the conglomerate’s prayer Majlis programs organized on Guru’s third martyrdom anniversary, which were to be attended by senior resistance leaders.”
Stating that the state administration was “dealing with people with a dictatorial and a fascist attitude”, the spokesperson condemned the arrest of senior pro-freedom leader Muhammad Yasin Malik and house arrest of Hurriyat leader Hilal Ahmad War besides several other leaders, and undeclared-curfew in most parts of Srinagar.
The spokesperson also condemned the massive forces presence in Guru’s ancestral village Dobgah, Sopore and adjoining areas saying that this was done to stop people from participating in the prayer Majlis for the martyr.
