To further increase its footprint in rural segments of Jammu district, J&K Bank today dedicated a business unit to people in Allah area of Bishnah tehsil.

Arvind Gupta, Bank’s Zonal Head inaugurated the facility in presence of cluster head Rajesh Gupta amid presence of local businessmen, traders, community heads and people from different segments of life, a company statement issued Tuesday evening said.

Zonal Head while urging the locals to inculcate banking habits said, “We need your cooperation in making banking a blessing for the area. We are here to make useful financial interventions to pave way for empowerment of the marginalized segments of the society and overall prosperity of the area”.

Locals expressed gratitude to the Bank authorities for coming closer to them with the state-of-the-art banking services.

Meanwhile, J&K State Level Bankers’ Committee convened first meeting of its Steering Sub-Committee to monitor SHG- Bank Linkage Programme in J&K State at J&K Bank, Zonal Office Jammu (Central). The meeting was chaired by B R Patnaik, General Manager, NABARD, Regional Office, Jammu and was among others attended by Dr G N Qasba, Mission Director, SRLM, J&K Government, F A Peer, Consultant, NRLM, J&K Government, R K Chhibber, Chairman, J&K Grameen Bank, R K Srivastava, DGM, NABARD, Narjay Gupta, Vice-President (LBD/J&KSLBC), J&K Bank and representatives of all members of the Steering Sub-Committee.

Objective of the meeting was to evaluate and sort out certain constraints and difficulties being faced in implementation of the SHG – Bank Linkage Programme and ensure hassle-free promotion of the Scheme in J&K State. The forum stressed upon the State Government to take necessary measures to ensure that financing through SHGs and JLGs is adopted as a priority area for inclusive growth. The forum emphasized the need for creation of a dedicated environment to promote SHGs and JLGs of targeted individuals and creation of training infrastructure for skill up-gradation of members of the SHGs and JLGs in the State.

All the banks operating in J&K State and concerned government agencies were impressed upon to work in a coordinated manner to implement the SHG-Bank Linkage Programme in letter and spirit in the State, so as to encourage members of the SHGs to build relationship with the banks and other developmental agencies, which will boost their motivation to start their livelihoods and encourage balanced growth.  The forum also emphasized the need for conducting mass awareness programmes by banks as well as concerned Promoting Agencies, so that hassle-free services are provided to the SHGs/ JLGs.
