According to police, as per The Print, the complaint was filed by Dr Kriti Singh, a resident of Sector 128, Noida, against her husband Shivanshu Rajput, a 2019-batch IPS officer posted in Bengaluru. Others named in the FIR include Rajput’s parents, brother, sister-in-law and two friends.

“The FIR has been registered under Sections 85, 115(2), 352, 351(2), 3(5), and 316(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, along with Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961,” said Bhupendra Kumar, Station In-charge of Sector 126 Police Station.

In her 41-page complaint filed on October 16, Ms Singh alleged that she faced persistent dowry demands and physical as well as mental harassment since her marriage in December 2021, held at a five-star hotel in Agra. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old son.

She further claimed that her family spent over Rs 2 crore on the wedding, including jewellery and other expenses, yet her in-laws continued to demand additional dowry. The complaint also accuses the IPS officer of maintaining extramarital relationships and threatening to desert her when confronted.

Police said an investigation is underway, and statements of both the complainant and the accused will be recorded shortly.
