Five Accused Named in Alleged Migrant Land Sale Scam

   

SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch, Jammu and Kashmir, has booked five persons in connection with an alleged land fraud involving migrant property in Baramulla district and conducted a search operation at a residence in Budgam as part of the ongoing investigation.

According to officials, the case pertains to an alleged attempt to fraudulently sell migrant land measuring 14 kanals and three marlas situated at Goshbugh Pattan in Baramulla district through fake agreements and criminal conspiracy.

The Crime Branch said an FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of law at Police Station EOW Kashmir, and investigations revealed the involvement of five accused persons in allegedly duping the complainant of crores of rupees on the pretext of selling the land without the consent of its actual owner.

As part of the investigation, officers of the Economic Offences Wing searched a house in Banit, Beerwah, in Budgam district. The search was carried out to collect evidence and further examine the alleged fraudulent transactions linked to the case.

Officials said the accused had allegedly sought to facilitate the sale of the migrant property through forged arrangements and misrepresentation, causing substantial financial losses to the complainant.

The Crime Branch has not disclosed the identities of the accused persons. However, officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the alleged fraud and identify any additional persons involved.

Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Wing advised members of the public to remain vigilant against economic fraud and fraudulent property transactions. It urged people to report such cases directly to the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, Crime Branch, or through the official grievance channels.

Officials reiterated that action would continue against individuals involved in economic offences and property-related frauds across the region.
