SRINAGAR: Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Inderjit Singh Bindra passed away on Sunday at the age of 84.
A prominent administrator, Bindra played a key role in transforming cricket administration and marketing in India. He served as BCCI president from 1993 to 1996, a period widely regarded as crucial in the commercial growth of Indian cricket.
Bindra was also closely associated with cricket in Punjab, having served as president of the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) for more than three decades, from 1978 to 2014. Under his leadership, the PCA emerged as one of the country’s leading state cricket bodies.
In recognition of his contributions to the sport, the PCA Stadium in Mohali was renamed the IS Bindra Stadium in 2015.
Paying tribute, International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah expressed deep condolences, describing Bindra as a stalwart of Indian cricket administration whose efforts left a lasting impact on the game.
