Hurriyat Conference (g) chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani on Thursday hailed the report prepared by the Amnesty International India chapter and produced by its Executive Director Aakar Patel wherein the quantum of human rights violations at the hands of armed forces is highly alarming and as a matter of grave concern must be an eye opener for India which claims to be a largest democracy of the globe, a Hurriyat statement said.
The veteran leader said that a total ban on the indiscriminate use of pellet guns and other lethal weapons against the human beings, as in Kashmir demanded by the Amnesty International needs compliance by the men in uniform.
Geelani termed it highly regrettable that these lethal weapons are used against the peaceful protests organized by the people raising the slogan for right to self-determination since 1947.
The statement elaborated that the frequent use of heavy weapons and repressive measure in Jammu Kashmir has become the routine matter and people are used to such cruel methods of physical and mental torture.
