SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a decline in the number of active militants as authorities intensify efforts to curb militant activities, government sources revealed.
According to official data, 59 foreign militants from Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) are currently active in the region. Meanwhile, the number of local militants stands at 17, with just three in the Jammu region and 14 in the Kashmir Valley.
Breaking down the foreign militants, sources confirmed that three belong to HM, 21 to JeM, and 35 to LeT.
In a parallel security operation in Manipur between 16 February and 7 March, a total of 990 weapons were surrendered, alongside the recovery of 11,526 rounds of ammunition. Security forces also seized 366 hand grenades, 230 bombs, and 10 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The government remains committed to dismantling militant networks and preventing the misuse of Indian Territory for militant activities, officials added. (KNS)
