SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved a series of structural reforms aimed at strengthening the engineering cadre in the Union Territory, including amendments to the Engineering Gazetted Services Recruitment Rules, 1978, and relaxation in qualifying service for senior positions.
As part of the changes, 25 Executive Engineers have been promoted to the rank of Superintending Engineers. The process for filling various other vacant posts in the department has also been initiated.
The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Engineering Graduates Association (JKCEGA) welcomed the decisions and expressed its appreciation to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and the Minister for Jal Shakti, Javeed Ahmad Rana, for what it described as timely and necessary reforms.
JKCEGA acknowledged the role of Minister Javeed Ahmad Rana in pushing forward the measures, stating that the steps would address long-pending concerns related to career progression and service structure in the engineering sector.
These reforms are expected to improve efficiency in public works and infrastructure development projects across the region.
