KL Report

Two surgeons of North Kashmir’s remote sub district hospital in Ganderbal were in news on August 16, 2012 for their negligence. They were accused of removing gall bladder instead of an appendix. But now the state government is set to award both the doctors for saving life of a critical patient. Interestingly, the award is given for saving the same patients life for whose negligence the duo were damned by the local media.

Sheikh Tariq (38) and Abdul Rouf (39), two surgeons became the target of public anger when a news agency reported that they wrongly removed a gall bladder instead of an appendix of a 25 year old female patient. The story was carried by almost all local, national and international news agencies.

But now, a biopsy report of the surgery has confirmed the correctness of doctors besides the patient’s family has also cleared the duo of any wrong doing.

Dr Sheikh Tariq, a super specialist in plastic surgery and urologist Dr Abdul Rouf, had operated on the woman on emergency basis after reporting cute abdominal pain on August 14. As time was running out, the duo had performed some tests and later had gone for laparotomy, a full sized abdominal incision which is a standard procedure in such conditions.

The doctors had found her gall bladder ruptured which was removed successfully and patient had recovered without any complication.

But the incident shattered the lives of both the doctors as they were held responsible for negligence. Duo, usually prefer to remain indoor now.
