SRINAGAR: An IndiGo flight from Tirupati to Hyderabad was forced to return to its origin late Sunday after suffering a technical glitch shortly after takeoff.
Quoting IndiGo officials, NDTV reported that Flight 6E 6591, an Airbus A321 operated by IndiGo, took off from Tirupati Airport at 7:55 p.m. on Sunday but was airborne for only a few minutes before it began circling in the sky due to a technical snag. After being in the air for over half an hour, the aircraft made a safe landing back in Tirupati at around 8:30 p.m. The plane was carrying 221 passengers on board, all of whom are safe.
The reason behind the unexpected return remains unclear. “IndiGo has since arranged a replacement flight, which is scheduled to depart for Hyderabad at 8:20 a.m. on Monday morning to accommodate those affected,” said an IndiGo spokesperson.
Recently, there have been hundreds of cases of Indian aircraft facing technical issues mid-air. This comes amid heightened tensions faced by Air India and Boeing aircraft following the devastating crash on June 12 that killed over 260 people.
