The vehicles were delivered on Wednesday, marking India’s first commercial deployment of hydrogen-powered buses. According to NTPC, these buses will operate at the world’s highest altitude in Leh, setting a global record for green mobility.

In November 2023, NTPC had launched the world’s first hydrogen fuelling and green hydrogen mobility station in Leh. Located at an altitude of 11,562 feet, the station is powered by a 1.7 MW solar plant.

The project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 350 metric tonnes annually and generate 230 metric tonnes of oxygen, equivalent to the contribution of 13,000 trees.

NTPC, India’s largest power utility with an installed capacity of over 81 GW, has 29.5 GW under construction, including 9.6 GW of renewable energy. It aims to reach 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032.
