Indo-Global Social Service Society (IGSSS) organised an event ‘Celebrating Womanhood’ on the eve of   International Women‘s Day at Community Information Centre (CIC) Sumbal, Sonawari.

Sub-Judicial Magistrate (Sumbal) Faiqa Nazir spoke on the occasion about rights and duties of women. “Women have to change the thought process, mere awareness campaigns or workshops will not work if women don’t change their thought processes,” she said. “We have listened a lot and talked a lot but we, as a women must act now. Before we decide our course of action, we need to ponder over our place in the society or at home. With rights comes duties and women shouldn’t shy away from performing their duties.

Nazia Nabi, Officer Programmes (IGSSS) spoke on the occasion and threw light on what women has achieved in District Baramulla or Bandipora. Community members were made aware about the importance of International Women’s Day and the need to spread awareness on the celebration of the event.

Many SHG members talked about “their journey from darkness to light”. Farida, one of the members of Kirmania SHG talked about the change which has come over the years in her and how that change has helped her daughters in real growth. “I learned to fight my own battles without anybody’s help, she said with sparkling eyes.”
