SRINAGAR: India on Monday strongly condemned the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman, confirming that 10 Indian nationals have been rescued, while one Indian crew member remains missing.
In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the Indian Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and is coordinating with Omani authorities involved in the ongoing search and rescue operation.
“We condemn the attack on the commercial vessel GFS Galaxy off the coast of Oman. Of the 11 Indian nationals on board, 10 have been rescued so far, while one Indian national is reportedly missing,” the MEA said.
The ministry thanked the Omani authorities for their support and said the Indian Embassy is proactively coordinating with them as efforts continue to trace the missing crew member.
Expressing concern over the deteriorating security situation in regional waters, the MEA described the continuing attacks on commercial shipping as “deeply worrisome” and called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions.
India also urged the conclusion of ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving a diplomatic solution to restore peace and stability in the region.
Stressing the need to safeguard international maritime trade, the MEA said attacks on commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure must end, adding that free and unimpeded navigation through international waterways should be restored at the earliest in accordance with international law.
