SRINAGAR: India has recorded a significant rise in meat exports, with the total value reaching Rs 35,233 crore in 2024-25, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This was revealed in the Rajya Sabha during the reply to Unstarred Question No. 691 by Mausam B Noor, answered by the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, on December 5, 2025. The data shows that buffalo meat remains India’s flagship export, both in terms of volume and global ranking.
During 2024-25, India exported over 12.38 lakh tonnes of buffalo meat, placing the country third globally by volume and fifth by value. Buffalo meat exports alone accounted for Rs 34,392 crore, up from Rs 31,010 crore in 2023-24. Sheep and goat meat exports reached 11,581 tonnes worth Rs 719 crore, while poultry meat shipments surged to 7,428 tonnes, valued at Rs 112 crore. Other categories, including processed meat, contributed additional exports, though at lower volumes.
India’s top five export destinations for meat in 2024-25 were Vietnam, Egypt, Malaysia, the UAE, and Indonesia, together accounting for over 7.95 lakh tonnes and Rs 22,147 crore in value. Vietnam led in quantity with 2.18 lakh tonnes, while Egypt’s imports surged to Rs 5,549 crore.
The government confirmed that India remains one of the leading exporters of buffalo meat globally, ranking third in quantity and fifth in value, underscoring the sector’s increasing competitiveness. This rise in exports reflects both growing international demand and India’s expanding meat processing and logistics capabilities.
