SRINAGAR: India will celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Saturday, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, as confirmed by religious authorities and moon-sighting committees across the country.
In contrast, Kerala will observe Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday after the Shawwal crescent moon was sighted there. In the rest of the country, the moon was not seen on the previous evening, extending Ramadan to 30 days and setting Eid celebrations for Saturday.
Eid al-Fitr, one of the most important Islamic festivals, is observed with special prayers, charity, and social gatherings. Markets in major cities have seen a surge in activity ahead of the festival, with people buying clothes, sweets, and gifts.
Authorities across several states have issued advisories to ensure smooth conduct of prayers and public gatherings, with arrangements in place for security, traffic regulation, and essential services.
The festival will be marked by congregational prayers at mosques and open grounds, followed by visits to relatives and traditional feasts, as millions across the country take part in the celebrations.
