SRINAGAR: The Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) India on Wednesday warned his Pakistani counterpart over continued ceasefire violations and expressed concern regarding unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).
DGMOs of both countries held discussions over the hotline to address the situation.
“During the conversation, India conveyed its concerns about the unprovoked firing and issued a warning regarding repeated ceasefire breaches,” an official said.
Meanwhile, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing for the sixth consecutive night along the LoC and IB in four districts of Jammu region and North Kashmir.
Officials said Indian forces responded effectively. “The firing with small arms was reported from the Pargwal sector along the IB in Jammu district and the Sunderbani and Naushera sectors in Rajouri district,” they added.
Following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, security forces on both sides have remained on high alert.
“On the night of April 29–30, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors,” a defence spokesperson in Jammu said, adding that Indian troops responded swiftly and proportionately.
Similar incidents were reported from Pakistani posts opposite Baramulla and Kupwara districts in Kashmir.
“The firing initially began in Kupwara and Baramulla, then spread to Poonch and Akhnoor sectors. It later escalated to Sunderbani and Naushera in Rajouri, and finally to the Pargwal sector along the IB in Jammu,” officials added. (KNO)
