SRINAGAR: With the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir from 15 August, Srinagar, the summer capital of the Union Territory, continued to experience a heat wave on Tuesday, with the mercury settling at 34.6 degrees Celsius.

Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that the hot weather conditions are expected to persist tomorrow, with the possibility of a three-day wet spell beginning on 15 August.
“Light rainfall is expected in multiple areas of Kashmir, with some regions likely to receive moderate rainfall as well. The change in prevailing weather conditions is anticipated from the morning of 15 August,” he said.
However, Srinagar recorded a heat wave today, with temperatures reaching 34.6 degrees Celsius, which is 4.6 degrees above normal.
In Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, the mercury settled at 32.4 degrees Celsius, while in Pahalgam and Kupwara, it settled at 29.4 degrees Celsius and 34.6 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Kokernag and Gulmarg, a famous ski resort, recorded maximum temperatures of 31.7 degrees Celsius and 23.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Jammu recorded the same temperature as Srinagar at 34.6 degrees Celsius, while in Banihal, the mercury settled at 29.7 degrees Celsius.
Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah recorded maximum temperatures of 27.5 degrees Celsius, 31.5 degrees Celsius, and 31.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
