SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a temporary relaxation in the upper age limit for the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) 2024, following persistent demands from candidates over the past four years. The government is also considering a similar relaxation for police recruitment exams.
According to the official notification signed by Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner Secretary to the Government, the age limit for Open Merit candidates has been raised to 35 years. Reserved category and in-service candidates will have an upper age limit of 37 years, while the limit for physically challenged candidates has been set at 38 years.
The relaxation follows a reduction in the upper age limit that was implemented after the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A, which lowered the age limit to 32 for general category candidates and 35 for reserved categories. This decision led to significant opposition, with hundreds of aspirants affected by the change, especially those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Conference (NC), which had previously pledged to review the age limit in its manifesto, expressed support for the relaxation. In a message on social media platform X, the NC said, “As promised in our Manifesto, JKNC government prescribes revised upper age limit for Jammu & Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination. We wish all the candidates good luck with their preparations!”
