SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has extended the deadline for the Central Assistance scheme aimed at the one-time settlement of families displaced from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) in 1947 and from Chhamb during the wars of 1965 and 1971, pushing the completion date from March 31, 2026 to September 30, 2026.
The extension was approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India, and formally notified by the Jammu and Kashmir administration through an order issued on June 10 by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti.
According to the order, the extension will operate within the approved financial outlay of Rs 2,000 crore under the existing rehabilitation package for displaced families.
The decision follows approval conveyed by the MHA on May 25, 2026, allowing the administration additional time to complete the implementation of the scheme and extend benefits to eligible beneficiaries who are yet to be covered.
The order, however, makes it clear that the scheme will not continue beyond September 30, 2026, which has been fixed as the final sunset date for its implementation.
The one-time settlement scheme was launched to provide financial assistance and rehabilitation support to families displaced from PoJK in 1947 and from the Chhamb sector during the 1965 and 1971 conflicts, and forms part of the Centre’s broader rehabilitation measures for affected families in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said the extension would facilitate the completion of pending cases and ensure that eligible displaced families receive benefits under the rehabilitation package within the revised timeframe.
