SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government is working on a structured policy to address employment concerns of dentists and create new job opportunities, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakeena Itoo announced on Monday.
Speaking at the Annual Day celebrations at Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC), Jammu, Itoo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding employment prospects for dental professionals in government and allied sectors. She emphasized the importance of medical education and the role of dentists in strengthening public health services.
“The medical field is evolving rapidly, and professionals must upgrade their skills to match new advancements. Dentistry, as part of the healthcare sector, requires continuous innovation to improve patient care,” she stated.
The Minister lauded IGGDC for its academic and clinical achievements and urged students to dedicate themselves to learning and serving society. She also highlighted the college’s contributions to research and innovation in dentistry.
IGGDC Principal and Dean, Dr. Parveen Akhter Lone, presented a detailed report on the institution’s progress and achievements. She also requested the Minister’s intervention in introducing postgraduate courses and commended the government’s efforts in implementing written tests for registrar selection.
During the event, the Minister felicitated alumni serving in various government departments and meritorious students from different batches. She also released the first edition of the college magazine ‘UMEED’ as a platform for students to showcase their ideas.
Additionally, Itoo inaugurated the Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) at the hospital and conducted a tour of the facility to review dental services. She interacted with patients and gathered feedback on healthcare delivery at the institution.
