Jammu Kashmir Police Take Stringent Measures Against Drug Trafficking, 6 Arrested, One Property Attached

   

SRINAGAR: In a series of actions aimed at addressing drug-related crimes, the Jammu & Kashmir Police have undertaken significant measures, including property attachment and multiple arrests, across different districts of the Valley.

In Kulgam, police have attached a double-storied residential house with 15 marlas of land underneath, valued at approximately Rs 1 crore. The property, located in Rehpora Khudwani, belongs to Mohammad Ashraf Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat, who is currently lodged at Central Jail Kupwara. The attachment was carried out under Section 68-F(2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

According to authorities, the property was acquired through illicit trafficking of narcotics. Bhat is implicated in FIR number 43/2023 registered at Police Station Qazigund. Local residents have expressed support for the police action, seeing it as a step towards dismantling the drug trade in the region.

In separate actions, six individuals were arrested on drug charges in Srinagar, Kulgam, and Kupwara, with significant quantities of narcotics seized.

At a checkpoint at Habakadal Chowk, police from Shaheed Gunj Police Station apprehended Sameer Majeed Khan, a resident of Dadi Kadal Tankipora. Fifteen grams of heroin were recovered from his possession.
At Doodh Ganga Bund Chanapora, Chanapora Police Station officials arrested Jan Manzoor Bhat, a resident of Azad Basti Natipora, and seized five grams of brown sugar.
At Kursoo Aramwari Bund Road, Rajbagh Police Station personnel detained Mohsin Abass Lone, a resident of Wazir Bagh, with eight grams of brown sugar.

In Qazigund, a police team intercepted Bashir Ahmad Malik, a resident of Chowgam, near Railway Bridge at the Old BDO Office. A search led to the recovery of 4.6 kilograms of grinded cannabis and 45 grams of charas.

At Nerampora Bridge, Trehgam Police Station personnel stopped a suspicious vehicle, a Swift Dzire (registration number JK09B-3874). The two occupants, Javid Ahmad Sheikh and Sajad Ahmad, both residents of Gulgam, were found with 99 grams of brown sugar-like substance. Preliminary investigations revealed their involvement in targeting youth for drug sales.

Relevant cases have been registered at respective police stations, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities anticipate further arrests as part of a broader crackdown on drug networks.

The police have urged the public to report instances of drug peddling or other crimes by contacting their nearest police station or dialling 112. They have assured the community that stringent action will be taken against offenders under the law.
