Jammu Kashmir To See Widespread Rain, Thunderstorms Over Next Three Days

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to experience widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms over the next three days, with the Meteorological Centre in Srinagar warning of isolated heavy rain and weather-related hazards in parts of the Jammu division.

According to the weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday, widespread light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are expected across Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours, with similar conditions likely to continue for the subsequent two days.

The forecast indicates widespread weather activity across both divisions on August 17, 18 and 19. Conditions are expected to remain fairly widespread on August 20, 21 and 22 before becoming scattered on August 23.

The weather office has warned of isolated heavy rain in the Jammu division during the first four days of the forecast period. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph are also likely at isolated places.

The IMD has also cautioned of possible landslides, mudslides, shooting stones and flash floods at vulnerable places in Jammu division during the period of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

In Kashmir division, isolated thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph have been forecast throughout the seven-day period.

The weather bulletin said maximum temperatures during the past 24 hours remained 0-3 degrees Celsius above normal at many places in Kashmir, while temperatures in Jammu division were largely near normal. Kupwara recorded the highest maximum temperature in Kashmir at 32.8 degrees Celsius, while Kathua recorded 34.8 degrees Celsius in the Jammu division.

Minimum temperatures were also 1-2 degrees Celsius above normal at many places in Kashmir and near normal in Jammu division. Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Kashmir at 12.7 degrees Celsius, while Bhaderwah recorded 17.8 degrees Celsius in Jammu division.

Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms were reported from parts of J&K during the past 24 hours, with Poonch recording the highest precipitation of 33.5 mm, according to the IMD.

For Tuesday, Srinagar is expected to remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, with a maximum temperature of around 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 19 degrees Celsius. Jammu is likely to see generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures around 33 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius.

The weather office has advised people to remain alert, particularly in vulnerable areas of Jammu division, in view of the possibility of flash floods, landslides and other weather-related incidents during spells of heavy rain.
