Jammu Records 40.3°C as Intermittent Rainfall Hits Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Heatwave conditions continued to grip the Jammu region on Monday, with Jammu city recording a maximum temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius, making it one of the hottest days of the season so far.

The Meteorological Department said Katra registered the second-highest temperature at 37.8 degrees Celsius, while comparatively cooler weather was recorded in the hill stations of Banihal, Batote and Bhaderwah.

Amid the soaring temperatures, the Jammu and Kashmir School Education Department announced summer vacations for primary classes from June 1 to July 22, while students of Classes 7 to 12 will observe their summer break from June 8 to July 22.

The MeT Department has predicted hot and dry weather to persist on May 26 and 27, while scattered rain, thundershowers, hailstorms and gusty winds are expected at isolated places on May 28 and 29.

Meanwhile, intermittent rainfall was reported across central, south and north Kashmir. A hailstorm accompanied by gusty winds also struck several areas overnight, causing damage to apple orchards and standing crops.
