SRINAGAR: Panic spread across Munad Guffan village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district after a leopard allegedly killed several dogs and sheep, prompting the Wildlife Department to launch an intensive search operation to trace the wild animal.
Officials and local residents said the leopard entered the village and attacked domestic animals, triggering fear among residents and prompting authorities to initiate emergency response measures.
Teams from the Wildlife Protection Department rushed to the area and launched a search operation soon after reports of the attacks were received.
Despite sustained efforts by wildlife officials, the leopard had not been traced till late Monday, officials said.
Authorities have advised residents to remain indoors and avoid venturing into isolated areas until the animal is captured.
The advisory was issued as a precautionary measure amid concerns that the leopard may still be moving in or around the locality.
Villagers appreciated what they described as the timely response by Wildlife Department personnel, stating that teams reached the area promptly and initiated operations to prevent further attacks.
Officials said the search operation would continue until the leopard is located and safely captured.
