The employees’ Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) Sunday decided to defer its five day strike call which was set to begin on Feb 19 to press for fulfillment of demands of the state employees.

“In view of the prevailing situation in valley, we have decided to call off the strike for now. We will meet again on February 28 to decide future course of action keeping in view the overall situation in the state”, said senior JCC leader Muhammad Khurshid Alam while speaking to KNS.

The employees’ leaders under the trade union umbrella Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) in a meeting today held at JKPCC office here decided to withdraw the strike call.

“Keeping in mind the situation in the valley and the problems being faced by people amid continuous curfew and shutdown, we felt it our duty not to add to their miseries. As a goodwill gesture, we decided to call off the strike for the time being”, said Alam.

The JCC leaders expressed hope that the government would take a positive note of their gesture and ‘won’t further delay fulfilment of their just demands’. “The government should not compel us to take extreme measures and implement the subsequent agreements signed between them employees leaders of the state”, said Muhammad Khurshid Alam.

The JCC leaders thanked employees of the state for expressing their readiness for making the latest call a success. “The credit goes to employees of the state for expressing faith in the leadership. We will continue to fight for the just rights and demands of the employees till they are fulfilled by the government”, the leaders said.

Pertinently, the state employee’s trade unions have been demanding enhancement in retirement age from 58 to 60 years, removal of pay anomalies and regularisation of daily wagers.
