SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Mechanical Engineering Graduates Association (JKMEGA) has welcomed the recent regularisation of the Chief Engineer Mechanical and called on the government to expedite long-pending promotions and regularisation proposals across the Mechanical Wing of the Public Works Department (R and B).

In a statement issued on Thursday, JKMEGA expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Additional Chief Secretary (R and B) Anil Kumar Singh, and other senior officials for facilitating the regularisation process, describing it as a long-awaited and positive step for the engineering fraternity.
The association urged the administration to expedite pending promotions and placements at the levels of Superintending Engineer (SE) and Executive Engineer (XEN), stressing that appointments should be made strictly on the basis of seniority, merit and transparency. It said timely career progression was essential for maintaining institutional efficiency, enhancing employee morale and ensuring effective public service delivery.
JKMEGA also sought the early posting of engineers who have already been placed in higher positions and are awaiting assignment orders.
The association further appealed to the government to immediately forward all pending regularisation proposals for SEs, XENs, Assistant Executive Engineers (AEEs) and Assistant Engineers (AEs) to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC). It said the move was necessary to end prolonged ad hoc and in-charge arrangements and restore near-zero ad hocism in the Mechanical Wing of the PWD (R and B).
According to JKMEGA, a transparent and time-bound promotion mechanism is crucial for the professional growth of engineers and for strengthening the infrastructure and development framework of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reaffirming its commitment to constructive engagement, the association said it would continue to work closely with the administration for the welfare of the engineering community and in the larger public interest.
